CXXXVI – Carlisle to Annan

Hasteful MammalNEAR the start of September, five years and one day after I set off from Gravesend, I found myself heading out of Carlisle on a route that would lead me to the Scottish border.  Not only was this the start of the sixth year of this walking endeavour but the day would end with my stepping foot in Scotland for the first time in thirty-eight years.  It was not unexciting.

The day began with the first possible train out of London, which deposited me mid-morning in Carlisle.

CXVI – Chester to Heswall

Hasteful MammalTHE city of Chester is a lovely place to amble about in on a crisp January morning, whilst stuffing one’s face with delicious but unhealthy goodies bought from an old-fashioned sweet shop.  Trust me, I speak from experience (the actual speech may be muffled on account of the mouthful of sweets).

CXV – Flint to Chester

Hasteful MammalMY MOST recent walk was neither particularly long nor particularly coastal, involving as it did an amble alongside the River Dee as far as Chester, which is not on the coast.  But what Chester lacks in coast it makes up for in being absolutely lovely and that was justification enough.

LXIII – Avonmouth to Severn Tunnel Junction

Hasteful MammalMY MOST recent walk was plagued by annoyances which failed to dent my enthusiasm.  For instance, I specifically delayed my walk by a fortnight so that various others would be able to join me and none of them did.  Now, I’m quite happy to walk on my own but had I known I’d be doing that, I’d not have postponed it. I think in future I’ll just plan for myself and not for the benefit of others.
