CLXXI – Machrihanish to Tayinloan

Hasteful MammalON A certain morning in early July, on which citizens of a former colony would later be celebrating Getting Away with Violent Treason, I found myself arising not only much earlier than the impending celebrants but also than many in my own time zone.  I used this head start on my day to check out of a Campbeltown hotel and take the bus back to Machrihanish where, I hoped, it would be raining slightly less hard.  My hope proved entirely unfounded.

CLXIV – Lochranza to Brodick

Hasteful MammalI SPENT the third and final day of my April walking trip making my way around the coast of Arran towards the island’s main settlement, Brodick.  I was met by low cloud and greyness as I emerged from my hotel but the moisture in the air could not dampen my enthusiasm. CXLIII – Newton Stewart to Isle of Whithorn

Hasteful MammalMOST times, if I go walking, I do two or three days at a time.  Thus, I usually know, if it’s day three, that it is the last day of the trip. Not so on my last adventure, where it was the middle day of five. It was also the longest day’s walk of the trip and, coming as it did after the fatigue of two previous days of walking (which came, in turn, after five months without walks), it threatened to be a challenge.

LXXXVII – Newport to Cardigan

Hasteful MammalBETWEEN Newport and the PembrokeshireCeredigion border lie some truly stunning cliffs with some quite unnerving cliff paths clinging to the top of them.  This walk therefore threatened to test my head for heights and so it did. Mostly, I passed, although I admit to feeling unnerved in some places.  It was worth it.
