IT’S been a while since I updated this blog, despite still having two walks from my last trip to write up. And the fact that my March 2026 trip is still my last trip betrays that it’s been a while since I went walking also. Just what, you might wonder, have I been doing in the meantime?

The Cape Wrath Question
IF THE question of day five had been ‘is it still raining?’, that of day six of my September 2019 trip was ‘what to do about Cape Wrath?’ This had actually been a significant question looming over much of the trip and I had run out of room to avoid it.
How Not to Travel
THE 8th of May saw me up ungodly early, keen to resume my perambulatory pastime. I had booked the first train out of London Euston, which posed the usual issue that none of the commuter trains ran early enough to let me catch it. The solution was, as it has been before, to catch the night bus in the small hours, a thing I only have a chance of achieving if I opt not to go to bed at all.
Interruption Due to Injury
IT’S summer! I can tell because the rain is warmer! And that means it’s time to go and do more walking… but I can’t.
Last week, I found myself running for a bus, which was immediately followed by keeling over halfway between the start of the run and the actual bus, while clutching my knee and making ‘nnnng!’ noises. That weird tingly numb feeling that you get when your body is trying to hide what you’ve done from your brain started to spread through my leg.
